SINIGANG by Marie Aubrey J. Villaceran (Moral Values and Impact to Me As Part of the 21st Century Learner)

SINIGANG

The story entitled “Sinigang” is all about how people take chances and make mistakes. And as long as we are human, we are bound to make mistakes. Some are light mistakes, but most of the times, critical mistakes. Hence, we must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive and accept errors.

The things that I learned from the short story Sinigang are, everyone make MISTAKES. Whether it is from a relationship of love, friendship or family, you may have suffered cheating, misunderstanding and betrayal. Mistakes make you wiser, it is always good to save a relationship especially family matters and clear all the mistake made. And I believe in second chances and forgiveness because God always offers us a second chance in life. But, if you feel the same mistake repeated twice then you may chose to end the relationship and move on in life.

Another thing that I learned in this story, elders especially our parents hold a very important place in our lives. As being grateful to our parents, giving them respect and being obedient on what they are asking what to do is a gratitude to them. Continue being respectful to anyone no matter what their age, status, gender and others, and to be obedient as long as that specific action will not bring danger to anyone. Because our parents have lived a lot longer than us, and I’m positive that they’ve learned their fair share of lessons. Be like Liza even though she is experiencing a distant relationship to his father because of hos mistakes, even though she doesn’t like the conversation about her experience during the wake, she still managed to answer all the questions and despite of her emotions she manage to give respect for Sylvia.

The amazing short story “Sinigang” gives the reader the importance of respecting and forgiving a person who commit mistakes especially when it comes to your family. In addition, it teach us about the importance of having a strong foundation of relationship of each and every members of the family. It is a good story for the Filipino families who encounter the same issue and scenarios.
